Frequently asked

What words-per-minute does the reading time use?

225 wpm for silent adult reading and 130 wpm for spoken delivery. These are conservative averages backed by Brysbaert (2019) and Toastmasters guidance.

Does this match Word's count?

Yes, for normal prose. Microsoft Word splits on whitespace and treats hyphenated terms as one word; we follow the same rule.

Is the text sent anywhere?

No. Counting happens in your browser. Close the tab and the text is gone.
